The Falconer is a documentary opera about Richard Falconer,
He seeks his peculiar redemption
a wanderer-mendicant;
a street gypsy who transposes Birdsong
to wooden flute, a hidden language repulsive
to the uninitiated. He believes
his descent
from falcon-species
into humanform
is riddled with ghosts ghosts ghosts ghosts
and haunted by the curse of his ancestors.
through flight and self-abnegation: a crown of thorns
he wears to remember the origins of his poverty
and the strenuous aloneness of his liberation.
